PASSIVE HOUSE

HOUSE

THERMAL INSULATION

Thanks to a considerable thickness of thermal insulation, passive houses suffer from a very limited loss of heat. Even necessary heating needs are almost nil.

DOORS AND WINDOWS

Doors and windows are, from a thermal point of view, the weak point of the construction in the way that they are an important source of loss of heat or cold. In all our homes we install premium laminated wood windows.

PLANNING AND DESIGN

It is very important a smart and bioclimatic housing design. A well designed passive solar house will have constant pleasant temperatures in the interior throughout the year and will make good use of natural light. Therefore, it will require less energy to heat, cool and light than a conventional house.

AIR LEAKAGE CONTROL

Air leakage control. Holes in the envelope of the building cause a large number of problems, particularly during the colder periods of the year. Air flows from the inside to the outside through cracks and holes have high risk of causing condensation in the construction. Good air tightness increases comfort and reduces losses. With a passive house, the inhabitant has a building which guarantees thermal comfort and a superior build quality, thanks to a smart concept and not an excessive infrastructure.

THERMAL BRIDGES

Elimination of thermal bridges allows you to reduce heat loss and prevent pathologies due to condensation (fungi, etc.).

ENERGY RECOVERY VENTILATION SYSTEM

We install a VMC dual stream system (with Passive House Institute certification) which assures the quality of the air and provides a great thermal comfort and energy saving. With this system, and a small amount of heat through a biomass stove (we recommend pellets) and electric underfloor heating of low consumption in the bathrooms, we get traditional heating systems to be removed in our homes.

WHY PASSIVE HOUSES?

H

ouse Habitat builds passive houses with almost zero consumption. Energy efficient, ecological and healthy houses; which use the resources of bioclimatic architecture combined with an energy efficiency far superior to traditional construction. They are houses with very low energy consumption which offer throughout the year a comfortable ambient temperature without the application of conventional heating (as opposed to the traditional construction). The European Directive aims that in 2020, all new buildings have almost zero energy consumption. We are already applying it in our homes.

CRITERIA OF A PASSIVE HOUSE

P

assive houses are houses that use resources of bioclimatic architecture, but combining this with unrivalled energy efficiency: they are airtight houses. Windows are to be opened and to let the light enter, although they are not made to prevent heat from escaping. The isolation of these homes is absolute, and the renewal of air is performed through a ventilation system with a heat exchanger, which renews the air preventing heat from escaping.
